Oliver! Immanuel College has been revolving around the school production of ‘Oliver’ for 9 months now. The idea was considered in May of last year and since then the cast has been auditioned from the school with at least about 60 people involved in some way. As well as the talented cast, we have the dedicated tech team, who create the props, control the lighting and sound and all the scene changes that make up the show. A member of the Technical team, Adam said “When the show has started the pressure is on, but I am glad to be a part of it”. Also is the band that provides the music, which includes Miss Jinks and Mrs Wilkinson who teach Music in Immanuel. As well as 3 professionals who were asked to perform as part of the band. Most of the band is made up of students in school, one of the band members Irene told us “It’s been very tiring as I have been practising for 3 months, after a performance my arm and jaw really hurt but it’s all worth it in the end. If I had to choose between acting and playing in the ban I would definitely play in the band”. And the people who pulled it all together from the very beginning, Miss Sey, Mr Carroll and Miss Chant; when you watch the performance you can see the effort put in to each scene and each line given. Mr Carroll who is head of Drama at Immanuel said “Oliver, was a great idea right from the start, as pupils self-confidence rises, the profile of the school and of the department rises and you also get to see the pupils in a different light to lessons” Also Miss Chant, the choreographer commented “That the performances are brilliant, and I feel so proud of all the cast and everyone involved”. The first performance started on Tuesday evening, with a BANG! If you ask any member of the audience who saw the show that evening, they will all agree that Oliver started enthusiastically and continued in the same way, the tension between Bill and Nancy was felt by the audience and the laughter was shared by all. We spoke to part of the cast Lauren and Marc about their feelings on Oliver and they said “Being on stage is the best feeling in the world but afterwards you always feel shattered.” Today there are 2 more performances, with the final performance this evening, everyone is feeling mixed emotions as Oliver sadly comes to an end, but it won’t go out without fireworks!
