Science Bid

Rationale

As a college bidding for Specialist Science Status we are aiming to be accountable for the promotion of Science both as a means of guaranteeing an enhanced acceptance of the world in which we live and to induce a use or pursuit of science in the future.

We are dedicated to providing an educational experience for all students to strive for personal achievement in every aspect of life.

Science aims to link up with other departments to build up an ethos where excellence in mind, body and spirit is key to developing the whole self.

Primary Links

We will attempt to assist any school allied to Immanuel who may, through budget or training restrictions, be experiencing difficulties in the delivery of the best possible science provision.

We will do this by providing *‘ COOL’ tasks designed to be used in resource restrictive environments, but in an exiting way.

We will provide a designated teacher to primary links who will regularly visit primary schools to help with the training of particularly difficult science tasks.

We will continue to provide a stream of excellent Primary Science Activities, which make ICC attractive to parents and pupils alike.

* COOL ( Completely Out Of Lab)

Our Aims

Our aim as a science department is to access all subject areas and use them as a ‘lever of change’ – to draw out and raise levels of attainment through sharing and collaboration. We aim to do this by generating interest and developing ways for all students to be familiar with the curriculum and use it by thinking across curriculum confines.

We aim to convert the nature of teaching and learning at Immanuel, raising standards of accomplishment for every student in every subject. We will front, in league with link departments, the teaching and learning strategies that will make possible higher quality learning and deepen knowledge, skills and understanding of all participating students. We will extend strategies, which will promote favoured learning styles.

We will encourage students to be answerable for their own academic achievement and to be personally in charge of their lifestyle choices.

We will promote issues relating to health and well-being – they will take in both curricula and will begin in the local community and expand at Immanuel to include its family of associated schools.

We will liaise with appropriate departments such as PE, Food Technology and PHSCE to produce PHPs (Personal Health Portfolios), which will be designed to be co-taught in Science. We will instil in students and staff the awareness and lifestyle essential for healthy living.

Community Plan Aims

  • We will adopt a holistic approach to promoting the health of students, staff and the community.
  • We will work with the local community and primary feeder schools to help elevate levels of attainment in Science and associated subjects.
  • We will put in place plans to increase out of hours activities involving the community and local industry.
  • We will involve all schools within the confederation and work together to share our aims
  • We will work to develop a unified approach aimed at engaging young people in adopting a healthy lifestyle through healthy activities.

ICT in Science

ICT is an incredibly useful tool in the teaching of science and science related topics. We plan to use it in new and exiting ways.” We envisage a department that routinely uses class sets of laptop computers, data-logging equipment, portable interactive white-boards and related presentation tools. We will use internet, intranet and CD-Rom based systems and materials to support Immanuel students when they need it, where they need it, in an exciting ICT/Science environment.
