Types of Governor

Types (Categories) of School Governor

Governors represent the various communities that have an interest in the school: both the vision & ethos of the school and the management of the school.

A Church Aided School / College has FOUR types (categories) of school governor:

  • Foundation (For Immanuel College this is the Church of England)

Foundation Governors are APPOINTED by Bradford Diocese (Church of England)

LEA governors are APPOINTED by Bradford Council

Staff Governors are ELECTED by Immanuel staff.

Parent Governors are by ELECTED by Immanuel parents / carers.

Associate Membership of Governing Body

A school governing body has the legal right to appoint an individual with identified skills / knowledge / experience of relevance to the school as an Associate Member of the governing body.  Such an individual has an advisory role and he/she is not a governor.
