KS3 visit City Hall and meet the Lord Mayor

On Wednesday 16th January 10 KS3 students cashed in some of their reward points to take part in a trip to City Hall in Bradford.  Below is a report by Jessica Spurden and Caitlin Brimancombe.

On Wednesday 16th January 10 students from Year 7 and Year 8 got the opportunity to meet the Lord Mayor of Bradford at City Hall in Bradford city centre.  We left school on the school mini-bus at 10.30am and arrived at 11am. On arrival we walked through City Hall and were stunned by the beautiful features.  We met with the Lord Mayor and his wife and were each presented with a gold badge in the shape of the crest.  The Lord Mayor and his wife gave us a really warm welcome and we presented the Lady Mayoress with a bunch of flowers.

We were then treated to lunch, which was really tasty.  We ate pizza, chips and chicken nuggets, they were the best we have ever had.  During the meal we were invited to ask the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress questions.  We learnt lots of interesting facts, in particular that they had taken part in more than 500 civic engagements in less than a year.

After lunch we were taken on a tour of City Hall.  It was amazing.  We visited the banqueting suite, where we got to read the names of all the past Mayors.  We then got to see the councillor seats where councillors get to debate.  Afterwards we looked at all the treasures, including the Lady Mayoress’ necklace which has 200 diamonds.  We were then taken to the Victorian court room, which was incredible.  It was so beautiful and we learnt that it gets used by film companies from all round the world and even Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

We ended our tour in the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress’ offices.  The Lady Mayoress showed as around and spoke about all her paintings.

We finished at 1pm and headed back to school in time for our last lessons.

We all had a truly memorable day and cannot thank the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress and the all the City Hall staff enough.
